Restore Our Pledge of Allegiance
Michael Newdow's informative website concerning his efforts to legally have "under God" removed from the Pledge because it is in violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. We strongly support his tireless effort to return the pledge back to the original secular wording of 1954.

American Humanist Association
"Humanism", as defined by the American Humanist Association, "is a rational philosophy that asserts humanity must take responsibility for its own destiny rather than rely on theological or ideological abstractions". The association publishes a bimonthly magazine "of critical inquiry and social concern" called The Humanist. We highly recommend both the website and magazine, which offer alternative ideas to counter the supernaturalism so prevalent in our society.

Science and Creationism: A View from the National Academy of Sciences
The text and pictures from this book (about 40 pages long) are made available for reading or downloading. Very clear up to date explanations are provided. Chapters include: introduction, preface, the origin of the universe, evidence supporting biological evolution and human evolution. A short conclusion compares evolution and creationism and an appendix gives answers to frequently asked questions. Highly recommended for a basic understanding of the so called controversy between evolution and creationism (its only a controversy for creationists).

Teaching About Evolution and the Nature of Science
Another publication of the National Acadamy of Science available on line. Good background information on evolution and helpful suggestions for teachers on how to teach it.

Talk Origins
"Talk Origins Archive explores the creation/evolution controversy. Talk.origins is a Usenet newsgroup devoted to the discussion and debate of biological and physical origins. Most discussions in the newsgroup center on the creation/evolution controversy, but other topics of discussion include the origin of life, geology, biology, catastrophism, cosmology and theology".

Skeptics Society
"The Skeptic Society is a member supported 501(c)(3) non-profit scientific and educational organization of scholars, scientists, historians, magicians, professors and teachers, and anyone curious about controversial ideas...".

"The Skeptic Society and Skeptic Magazine investigate claims by scientists, historians, and controversial figures on a wide variety of theories and conjectures including but not limited to: evolution, creationism, cults, religion,... conspiracy theories, ...witchcraft, ...urban myths, ... magic,...scientific and academic fraud and hoaxes and many more". They provide a speakers bureau for teachers and organizations. Their quarterly publication, Skeptic Magazine, is full of challenging articles and provocative ideas. It is our favorite magazine because the scientific method is the cornerstone of all their investigations--we can't recommend it too highly!

Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc.
The Foudation is an educational group whose purpose is to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church and to educate the public on matters of non-theism. It publishes the only freethought newspaper in the United States, Freethought Today. The Foudation has won court cases ending a variety of First Amendment violations since being incorporated in 1978. It is a non-profit, tax- exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code 501 (c)(3).

UC Berkeley Museum of Paleontology's Evolution Website
A basic course in evolution intended to offer support to teachers who may come under attack from creationists when they teach Darwinian evolution, descent with modification. It covers the pitfalls and misconceptions that teachers may face in explaining evolutionary concepts. The development of the site was funded by the National Science Foundation, and is highly recommended.
